Alicia explains her beginnings, why she decided to start a business and how she has managed the good and bad times.
At Eholo, we love to hear the stories behind every consultation. Because psychology is not only about accompanying others, but also about the steps, doubts and decisions taken by those on the other side of the therapeutic process. Today we talk to María Gómez (@merigopsico), psychologist and founder of Sapiens, a project that demonstrates that entrepreneurship can also be an act of care.
📢 Eholo: What has been the biggest challenge you have encountered and how did you overcome it? And the best time?
💬 “My biggest challenge was to create Sapiens, an important step after many years of training. Being an online project and working as a freelancer, I knew that it could be a lonely journey, so my goal was to form a team. Today I feel very proud because I have achieved it and I think that together we are doing a great job.”
💬 “The best moment was to see, little by little, how everything was taking shape and working. That satisfaction of seeing the results of our efforts. And it's a very enriching job, especially when you see the progress of people who trust us.”
📢 Eholo: If you had to describe your therapeutic approach in a single sentence, what would it be?
💬 “An active process of change and personal understanding, a safe space adapted to your needs.”
From this starting point, [Name] builds therapeutic relationships where each patient can feel accompanied, understood and, above all, listened to.
📢 Eholo: How did you start to disseminate psychology on social networks?
💬 “I started in 2022 after studying for the PIR for years, a path full of uncertainty and frustration. I always think of the phrase 'When you close a door, you open a window' because that's what happened to me. The demotivation led me to record videos for other types of entertainment. It sounds typical, but at the time I never thought it could be turned into something so beautiful and meaningful.”
And so, almost unintentionally, a new phase began, where dissemination became a way of channeling, sharing and accompanying more people from another format.
📢 Eholo: What trends do you think will mark the future of the profession?
💬 “I believe that the future will be marked by technological advances, with their positive things but also their dangers. Tools that, if used as a complement, such as Eholo, can make our work much more effective.”
💬 “In five years, I imagine we will be much more effective, with the experience of having accompanied many more cases. However, I'm not obsessed with growing without limits. I highly value my peace of mind and balance with other aspects of my life. For me, having a team —even if it's small— and, above all, satisfied patients, already seems like a great achievement to me.”
📢 Eholo: A book that has marked you?
💬 An education, by Tara Westover. “Thanks to him, I became hooked on reading again. It's a true story about education as a transformative tool, resilience and self-determination.”
📢 Eholo: An essential podcast?
💬 “One that marked the path of many: Understand your mind. And, of course, my own podcast Mental sketch.”
📢 Eholo: What would you do if you weren't a psychologist?
💬 “Surely something related to social media and marketing.”
📢 Eholo: The best quote or piece of advice you've ever been given?
💬 “'Living is urgent', by Pau Donés. And everything he left us before he died in the documentary That you give me.”
📢 Eholo: Who would you like to have dinner with, dead or alive?
💬 “Leonora Carrington. She was a victim of her time, hospitalized in a psychiatric hospital against her will in Santander (and I am from there). He transformed all that pain into art and literature.”
📢 Eholo: A professional reference?
💬 “Mavis Tsai. I still have a lot to learn, but I identify with their approach and know that their work will be a valuable source of learning.”
This interview is a reflection of what psychology represents when one lives with authenticity and commitment: a path that is built step by step, with awareness, without leaving aside the human and personal part of those who accompany them. At Eholo, we are proud to be part of this type of project that takes care of mental well-being with professionalism, but also with soul.
